The importance of intermediate filaments in the shape maintenance of myoblast model tissues

Liquid and elastic behaviors of tissues drives their morphology and their response to the environment. They appear as the first insight into tissue mechanics. We explore the role of individual cell properties on spheroids of mouse muscle precursor cells and investigate the role of intermediate filaments on surface tension and Young’s modulus. https://elifesciences.org/articles/76409

Surface tension accross EMT

Epithelial-mesenchymal transition is not a one-step process but involved various processes. Looking at the action of the metastasis supressor NME1 in model tissues, we highlight an hybrid state of this transition and show that surface tension varies accross EMT as cell-cell adhesion. It can be considered as a marker of both EMT and malignant transformation.
